My Experience photographing a rescue pony!
I have been a horse girl all my life and working with a rescue was something I had wanted to do for a long time. Luckily for me, one of my good friends runs the Grass Valley division of a horse rescue Way Maker Ranch Rescue and she also has several adorable children who were sweet enough to model for me. My goal with this shoot was to bring awareness to the huge industry of rescued horses and to encourage people to choose a rescue pony overpaying top dollar for one.
The pony you see in this photo shoot was severely neglected and malnourished, along with several other horses. My girlfriend had to put “Pixie” in the tack room of her horse trailer because she was too small to fit with the other horses with the dividers in the back of her slant load for fear of her being trampled. My friend was told that “Pixie” didn’t like people.
Pixie was immediately taken under the wing of my friend’s youngest little girl and they became fast friends, despite the previous owner’s warning of her being unfriendly. With some groceries and some love, Pixie turned into a dream pony.
For this photo shoot, we unloaded Pixie in the parking lot of a local hotel and she had to walk across several bridges with stairs to get to the field we wanted to shoot it. She walked like a champ! No fear of crossing bridges and going over streams!
She is one of the most affectionate little ponies I have ever seen. You can just tell how grateful she is to have found such a wonderful home. And her love for her little girl is plain to see.
Horse Rescue Foundations in the Greater Sacramento Area
Horse rescue is a noble cause that aims to provide shelter, care, and rehabilitation for horses that have been abandoned, abused, or neglected. In the greater Sacramento area, there are several horse rescue organizations that work tirelessly to save these majestic animals and give them a second chance at life.
One such organization is the Grace Foundation of Northern California, which is located in El Dorado Hills. The Grace Foundation is a non-profit organization that rescues horses and other animals from abusive situations and provides them with a safe haven where they can receive medical care, rehabilitation, and training. Another organization that is dedicated to horse rescue in the Sacramento area is The Fund for Horses, which is based in Loomis. The Fund for Horses is a non-profit organization that rescues horses from abuse, neglect, and slaughter and provides them with sanctuary, rehabilitation, and adoption services. The organization also advocates for animal welfare and works to promote responsible horse ownership.
Other notable horse rescue organizations in the greater Sacramento area include the Equine Rescue Center in Elk Grove, the Gold Country Horse Rescue in Sonoma County, and the All About Equine in El Dorado Hills, CA. These organizations rely on donations and volunteers to continue their important work of saving horses and improving their lives.
