Every year I spend time visiting my parents in Belize for the winter. They became expats in 2020 and love it there! I always like to speckle my stay with a few weddings or portrait sessions. There are always couples visiting who want beach sunset photos, or elopement photos. These are my favorite, and since I am familiar with the area I can always try to help you by answering any questions you may have about your upcoming visit or destination wedding to Belize!
I adore beach sunsets! They are the perfect location for your photo session and Belize has some epic beaches! Placencia and Hopkins are two locations on the mainland that are home to many full-service resorts that frequently host weddings. Whether you are coming with a big party or just the two of you this could be the perfect option for your Belize location photography.
I would highly recommend Wild Orchid Beach vacation homes for housing your bridal party or extended family. This Placencia Resort is located close to the Placencia airport and a short golf cart ride to town. They have lovely cottages and villas to stay in.
Maya Beach Hotel is another lovely resort, much more full service than the villas at black orchid, this place provides all-inclusive stays and weddings as well. They have a lovely open-air restaurant on the beach where you can dine during your stay. Or just pop in for a gourmet meal even if you are staying elsewhere. The restaurant is situated right between the resort’s pool and the beach.
Of course, let’s not forget the Cayes pronounce Keys. Belize has a lot of little islands dotting all up and down the coast called Cayes. Ambergris Caye and San Pedro are some of the more popular of them. If you are looking for warm crystal clear water and soft sandy white beaches look no further! There are smaller islands and even private islands that you can rent for your wedding if that is what you are looking for.
My family’s favorite location is The Lodge at Jaguar Reef in Hopkins. They have the best service, an amazing ceviche bar, and also provide all-inclusive weddings and elopements.
Belize has a LOT to do and see and some of the most amazing things are inland a bit. They have the most amazing cave system which you can take a guided tour of by kayak or tubes. I personally loved the cave tubing float, you just kick back and relax as you float down the cave system tethered to your friends and pulled by the current.
You can go zip lining over the rainforest or visit one of the incredible Mayan pyramid ruins, Xunantunich was my favorite. Stop in one of the many little villages for some local chicken and beans with coconut rice, a Belizian specialty.
For your stay in the rainforest check out The Sleeping Giant resort, it is located on the Hummingbird Highway on the way to the beach from Belmopan.
