Crazy Horse Bar has been around for over 100 years and is known for serving incredible food and amazing music. For those craving good ole’ loaded taters (Tachos!) or an amazing salmon burger while listening to the best in local music, look no further than the family-owned Crazy Horse Bar N’ Grille in Nevada City. As a local, this is one of my favorite places to eat. It’s surprisingly healthy food from a place that looks more like a New Orleans bar than a restaurant but it definitely boasts some of the best food in Nevada County! From eclectic healthy dishes to classic dishes that never go out of style, this local landmark prides itself on serving up more than just a meal – they offer a glimpse into the history of Nevada City and the funky hippy style that Nevada County is known for. This place is loved by locals and definitely a hidden gem of Nevada County.
If you are looking for international cuisine Diego’s Chilean-inspired South American cuisine is your spot! This is another funky and super cool spot to get an incredible meal. I cannot tell you more how amazing their rolls are!!! They actually sell the rolls ready to bake at the holidays because they are such an amazing hit. They are served fresh and hot with garlic butter and a side of cilantro lime sauce for dipping…yummm! My boyfriend says this is the best burger in town, I however usually go for the tri-tip salad with grilled veggies and cilantro lime dressing. Everything here is Farm-to-Table and served on a funky mish-mosh of vintage plates and silverware. This hidden gem is a short walk from Downtown Grass Valley and its incredible promenade. I would recommend sitting on the patio. This is a absolute must try, you won’t find anything like it elsewhere!
For those looking to explore the lesser-known culinary treasures of Nevada County, The 5 Mile House is your place! Just 5 miles (duh lol) from Historic Nevada City is a landmark and home to mountain bikers and after-lake trippers. Just across from the access trail to the Hwy 20 mountain bike trails is a fun pub style restaurant with an incredible outside patio including bocce ball and live music. Perfect for grabbing a brew after your bike ride. Or with the family after a fun day on the lake. I will say its worth the drive though even if you haven’t been out enjoying Nevada County’s amazing outdoor recreation. Worth it just to sit on the incredible patio and enjoy a cocktail surrounded by amazing pine trees and enjoy the cooler weather if your from the valley!

Treats is an adorable little shop that is insanely popular in Nevada City. Their ice creams are all homemade, organic, and naturally flavored. It’s perfect on a hot day, though I can say it’s a popular spot year-round! My favorite is the mint chip which is not dyed green and is flavored with real mint it’s pretty mind-blowing and I absolutely recommend it!

Located on the lovely promenade in Downtown Grass Valley, Lazy Dog Chocolateria has been a local presence since I was a kid. They are a family-owned ice cream, gelato, salt water taffy, homemade fudges, and chocolate treats. You will always find a friendly teenager working there giving the place a youthful feeling.
